About this exam

A network technician working with HPE Aruba Networking equipment needs to understand what happens to traffic as it moves between clients, switches, routers and wireless access points. HPE3-U01 assesses that foundation, combining general networking knowledge with introductory ArubaOS-CX administration and wireless LAN deployment. It supports the HPE Aruba Networking Certified Network Technician (ACNT) credential and is intended for candidates beginning technical work with campus networks.

From OSI Layers to IP Packet Delivery

The exam expects candidates to explain network communication rather than simply recognize protocol names. The OSI and TCP/IP models provide the starting point, followed by Ethernet encapsulation, MAC addressing, IP forwarding and transport-layer behavior.

Knowledge of DHCP, DNS, ARP, TCP, HTTPS and other common protocols is important because each performs a different function during communication. Candidates should be able to distinguish addressing at different network layers and understand how devices process traffic.

HPE3-U01 also includes numerical conversion and IPv4 subnetting. Working through subnet masks, address ranges and default gateway selection helps connect the theory of IP addressing to practical network connectivity.

ArubaOS-CX Switching, VLANs and Routing

Wired network administration introduces decisions about device roles, switch interfaces and traffic separation. Candidates should understand how switches learn MAC addresses, how routers forward packets and how multilayer switches combine these capabilities.

ArubaOS-CX command-line knowledge is another important area. Revision should include CLI contexts, interface identification, basic configuration commands and saving configuration changes.

VLAN concepts require particular attention. Access and trunk interfaces serve different purposes, while VLAN tagging allows traffic from separate logical networks to share physical connections. Understanding broadcast domains, switching loops and inter-VLAN routing helps explain why a network configuration works or fails.

Wireless Channels, RF Behavior and Client Connectivity

Wireless networking is a substantial part of the HPE3-U01 objectives. Candidates need familiarity with IEEE wireless standards, radio frequency behavior, channel selection, interference and antenna characteristics.

Distinguishing adjacent-channel interference from co-channel interference is useful when considering wireless performance. Signal strength, transmit power, channel width and antenna coverage also influence network behavior.

The exam additionally addresses wireless management frames, client association, mobility and roaming. These concepts explain how wireless clients discover networks, establish connectivity and move between access points.

Deploying WLANs Through Aruba Central

HPE Aruba Networking Central introduces cloud-based network administration. Candidates should understand its management role, device communication requirements and the basic stages involved in configuring a wireless network.

Study should connect WLAN settings such as security, VLAN assignment and access controls with the wired infrastructure supporting wireless clients.

For HPE3-U01 revision, use a web-based practice test to check understanding of networking concepts and configuration decisions, alongside downloadable PDF questions and answers for offline review and annotation. Hands-on familiarity with ArubaOS-CX commands and WLAN configuration is particularly useful where the exam requires recognizing the consequences of a technical setting.
